Please come and see our exciting new work! There will be something for every one
A new(ish) challenge
During lockdown I set myself a challenge – to learn to spin! My aim was (and is) to be able to take the yarns I use to make my large-scale lace pieces from fibre to lace via dyeing. This is slightly complicated by the dual facts that I am allergic to sheep’s wool and that wool itself is not suited to lace making because of the very characteristic that makes it wearable – its stretch or crimp. So I have been experimenting with all sorts of other fibres: bamboo, silk, alpaca even banana. I have also ventured into natural dyeing – very exciting indeed! I am particularly keen on the woad that is so closely linked to East Anglia.
Art for Today 27th July – 28th August 2022
I am delighted to be taking part in Art for Today at Mannington Hall in Norfolk (manningtongardens.co.uk, NR11 7BB) where you are welcome to explore a great variety of art in wonderful surroundings. The works are not only displayed in a fresh gallery but are also placed amidst the beautiful gardens and grounds.
The exhibition is open during garden opening hours: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, 11am to 5pm.
I have work inside and out, including two collaborative works with ceramicist Kate Vogler.
I do hope that you can visit!
At last, another exhibition!
I am pleased to be able to report that I am exhibiting in the above exhibition – do come if you can and see what lacemakers can make!
Better late than never …
Rather later than planned, here are some images of our very successful exhibition. We had many visitors, some sales and, best of all, the very positive reception of what was a rather unusual exhibition. Poetry, ceramics, sculpture and lace blending together to make a harmonious whole (according to the visitors!)
Opening Saturday!
The Common Land exhibition is opening on Saturday – images to follow shortly.
Well finally, an exhibition!
It promises to be an exciting and stimulating exhibition with a touch of the unusual so please come and see it.
After a long break, I am exhibition at Salthouse church with Kate Vogler, Jonathan Ward and Alison Henry. Details below.
‘Rhythms’ – Handa Gallery 2020 with the Links and Layers group.
A successful exhibition, held during a brief respite from gallery closures due to COVID.
More images to come, but here is Glad that I live am I, an interpretation of a song/hymn I sang on my swing in the garden as a child. The embroidered word ‘seats’ are written in the Marion Richardson script that I was being taught at school – my first ‘joined-up’ handwriting. The image ‘seats’ worked from the words are bobbin lace panels, worked in linen, and then coloured as a child would colour a picture. They are deliberately child-like in nature. Each ‘seat’ is life-size.
Rhythms – Links and Layers at the Handa Gallery, Wells
Well, for so many reasons, it has been a long time since I posted. However, I have spent all day with other members of Links and Layers putting up our latest exhibition in the Handa Gallery which is part of Wells Maltings in Wells-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk.
In my ‘words’ for the exhibition, I mention that the sounds I recorded for Soundscapes are on this website. For those who have followed the lead, there is now a tab on the Home page to take you to where you can listen and see the lace and images.
Links and Layers Summer Exhibition, Pensthorpe June 2019
Another successful exhibition with Links and Layers. This was a new venue for us and used a new exhibition space which has plenty of potential.
The mixed exhibition garnered many compliments, particularly about the breadth of skill within our group of eight.
Where to next?
